Yes, if there's a specific question to be answered, folks will try to answer it. If it's just a pointless thread geared to attacking a reputable and knowledgable keeper, then you probably won't get much of a welcoming or friendly response.

The best part about this site is that the bickering, attacking, and most of the other crap you see elsewhere doesn't happen much here.  Al is right that the majority of the questions he gets are "stupid", not in the sense that they aren't legitimate questions, but that 99% of the questions he gets can easily be answered with a couple of mouse clicks.  If you can overlook his somewhat irritable demeanor, you can learn A LOT by watching his videos. It's sad to see so many people these days that have a total lack of intellectual curiosity.  Almost anything you could ever want to know is out there, if you just take the time to look.  I don't know if any of you have seen the movie "Idiocracy", but I think the premise of it kind of rings true, and that is scary...lol.

Folks now days are stupid, and they are lazy.

Many were that in the past also, but, they did not have the internet.

The only problem with being stupid, is if you remain that way.

If you try to learn, and seek answers, there are many folks who will help you.

However, those folks who can help you, EXPECT / DEMAND that you spend a bit of time trying to find the answers yourself first.

With resources like Google, Wikipedia, and the "Search" feature on forums, there is NO EXCUSE for folks to not do some searching BEFORE they jump on a forum and ask questions that they could have easily have found the answers for, with rudimentary search / internet skills.

The lazy folks tend to think that the experts on forums are "search engines," and they ask questions that have been asked a thousand times before.

And, the experts / experienced keepers get frustrated with answering the same questions time and time again.

It is easy to get to the point where you get fed up with that, and take a cynical view of the whole thing.

I saw it a long time ago, a great idea for a movie and I use it as a reference often  Grin

Or, "My snake won't eat frozen"! "What's a good beginner venomous snake"? "Where can I buy one of those"?

Unfortunately for me, I did some educational videos for a private website and they posted them on You Tube!

Now I get stupid questions from children barely old enough to dial a phone at all hours!

I answered my questions the old fashioned way, by reading BOOKS (which books are a dead technology now lol).

*snickers*
I made the mistake of giving out my # at one point, and I don't have NEAR the experience or good rep, so I can ONLY imagine how much fun that was for you..lol
I had some of the craziest questions..

"Can you eat a black snake?"
ME: Yeah, but why would you want to?? I mean, does the Road Kill Cafe have a Black Snake Plate Special??

I had a couple of large boas we had rescued (and they WERE legitimate rescues, not just surrenders we rehomed)
Caller: "Are they BIG snakes?? I want a snake so I can let it roam around and kill the mice in my house, but I don't want it to get ahold of my dogs, I have 15 little dogs.."
ME:  *CLICK*

You have a boa draped around your arm, or a Ball Python snuggled around you:
"Is it poisonous??"

At PetCo:
"Do they sell Cobras here?? I saw them Cobra heat mats, and I don't wanna see no cobras!!!"

About the Corn Snake:
"Oh mah GAWD it's a SNAKE! OOOOOOOoooo Looky at the way it's lookin at ye Elmer, it's sizin' yew up fer it's next meal!"

I agree with you John.
The most annoying question and one that I used to get quite often is:

“I’m doing a project... can you tell me all about snakes please”
If taken literally, think how long that would take to answer!

I doubt people actually realise when they have asked a dumb question.

Al IS THE START OF THIS THREAD WHILE i HAVE TO AGREE WITH aL MOST ARE STUPID.qUESTIONS CAN BE STUPID AND AS THE SNAKE PERSON OF YOUR AREA YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO ALL THE SAME DUMB QUESTIONS WE ALL GET.That is how it is .There will always be lazy people I myself ask dumb questions sometimes that is after keeping snakes longer than most of you have been alive not you JohnZ or Tim C .This is now the world of the quick fix and we can not answer some questions ever like. What should my first hot be,this is a question that only a person can solve themselves. We can offer advice but they never take it almost never. The truth is for most of us old dudes we never asked this question we caught our first hot and kept it most times hideing it from our mothers. Now days it is so different so many people want a snake and have no clues about keeping any snake at all it gets scary.........As for this site not haveing all the drama the reason is most here read most here do not call out another keeper like say viper keeper, most here have been keeping and breeding snakes most of there life, most here were not lazy when it came to learning. There is nothing wrong with reading a book as we do not have all the answers google helps. If you are going to get something new we research it as best we can then ask the questions .I my self have grown tired of finger pointing and it landed me here. The key to your question .It is your job to learn no one can catch you up to any one as we learn every day all you can do is take it day by day .Experience is what it is and it can not be learned it must be lived in a constant search for knowledge .I do not ever remember being invited to the help you catch up commitiy .So as has been stated read ,experience and time, then you will be there and if you can do this with out calling out any ones names you have won the prize ..Knowledge.
